Grand Isle Louisiana scheduled for future Disaster Rebuilding
NOMADS DISASTER REBUILDING TEAMS RETURNING TO GRAND ISLE!!!
The Disaster Rebuilding Committee (DRC) is excited that NOMADS have been invited back to Grand Isle, Louisiana for a second year.
The island community of Grand Isle was devastated on August 29, 2021 when Hurricane Ida made landfall. The 150 to 200 mph winds and 14 foot storm surge damaged and destroyed homes, ripped through the barrier dunes, and impacted the island and its 400 permanent residents in a dramatic and lasting way.
Thankfully, our loving God connected the Louisiana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church with Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church and the Bayou Community Foundation. Through this partnership, NOMADS were invited to bring Disaster Rebuilding teams to Grand Isle. Over this past winter, the Grand Isle caseload has continued to grow as the people of the island experience the hope that volunteers like ourselves can bring.
The expanding number of cases has resulted in the request for NOMADS to return.
The DRC is pleased to announce the 2nd year of the Grand Isle DR Project to be scheduled from October 23, 2023 through December 21, 2023 and January 1, 2024 through April 25, 2024.
RV parking will be at Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church with full hook-ups (50 amp electric, water, and sewer at each site). Work sites are expected to be in the Grand Isle community.
